Now here's a Republican who is worth having around

(Via the Drudge Report)

In just two months, Mr. Cruz, 42, has made his presence felt in an institution where new arrivals are usually not heard from for months, if not years.

Oh, you wicked, wicked Senator.  Why, you have questioned The Obama's pick for SecDef, called out the mayor of the murder capital of the US, and pissed off Barbara Boxer, who has labeled you a McCarthyite.

Good for you.  It's past time someone shook up the Greatest Rubber Stamp Deliberative Body in the World.

And where is Sen. Cruz from?  Texas.  I'm telling you, even though I'm sure the place has some warts  (Austin, most likely), the place is at or near the top of my list of locations to consider if I'm ever forced to leave California East (known as North Carolina in happier times).

Nag, nag, nag

Yep, I'm back with my weekly "Have you written your Congresscritters?" nag.  His Obamaness has made it clear he wants teh gunz.  State legislators all over Hell and half of Missouri want teh gunz.

Me, I want to keep teh gunz.  I figure that you do too.  We need each others help.  I've already emailed my Congresscritters for the week.  Have you?

A funny

OK, if you haven't spent time listening to NPR (National Proletarian Radio), this might not be quite so funny...

(anti-gun story fades out)

"Funding for this story was provided in part by the Pew Pew Pew Center for Research in the public interest."

OK, it's kind of lame, but it's what I got right now.  If that don't work for you, try this:

I find it interesting how little headline coverage the State of the Union speech has gotten.  Sure there's some, but I would expect a lot more crowing from the media at their favorite son's pronouncements.

It's almost as if even they realize that he's fast becoming irrelevant.

Dealing with the police state

For any number of reasons, we're seeing an increase of, for lack of a better description, hard-ass cops who think they are the law--and the judge and jury as well (executioner available in CA during manhunts only; may be occasionally available in other states if you are of the Canine-American persuasion).

We've seen the videos and heard the stories; I've posted enough about them.  I'm not saying that every cop is like this, it's demonstrably true that most aren't, otherwise we'd all have our own personal story to tell.  But it's happening more and more, and it's worrisome from a lot of angles.

It's been said that we commit 3 felonies a day, usually without knowing it.  There are so many laws on the books that it's more likely that one could understand the tax code than the US Code these days.

So what do you do when Officer Not-So-Friendly pulls you over and is determined to have you out of the car, cuffed, stuffed and watching him and his BFFs dismantle your car looking for one of those 3 felonies?  Well, you can't physically resist (I guess you could, but the outcome is guaranteed to be unpleasant for you), but you can take a stand on your rights and hope you don't have one of the violent ones, just one that will push you and try every trick in the Bad Cop, No Doughnut Handbook.

SurvivalBlog has the easy-to-memorize version of how to defend your rights on the side of the road (penned by Rawles himself) and 2 of his loyal readers have offered useful suggestions on the deployment of his suggestions as well as DIY dashboard cameras.

How did we allow our country get to the point where we need information like this?

Let's do the math

Everyone from the Pentagon to the President, from Pelosi to McCain are bemoaning those terrible budget cuts that are coming on March 1.  It's gonna be a disaster of unimaginable proportions--we're going to have government bureaucrats widows and orphans starving in the streets and the commies overrunning our military, who won't be able to pay anyone to fight on our behalf.

Well, OK, so the commies are already here.  As I was saying....

Before we all have to deal with the impact of a national bout of PSH, let's look at some numbers.

The FY 12 Federal budget, if we had actually had one, was $2.469 trillion.  I keep finding different numbers on just what the amount to be sequestered, but let's go with a high one--$110 billion.  That means the military would take a $55 billion cut, and all other programs would take a $55 billion cut, with many programs being exempt.

OMG, that amounts to...4.455% of the budget.  Yep, folks, the good old Us of A is going to collapse if we cut the budget 4.455%.

Don't be a sheep.  Demand that the politicians do the jobs they were elected to do.  Don't let them fool you with all the sturm und drang about how horrible this is going to be.  Send them a message--either pick where the cuts will be, or let it happen automatically.

Besides, it isn't like it's really going to make a difference in the long run, anyway.  We're still broke, and still living on credit.  It can't go on forever.
