Let's do the math

Everyone from the Pentagon to the President, from Pelosi to McCain are bemoaning those terrible budget cuts that are coming on March 1.  It's gonna be a disaster of unimaginable proportions--we're going to have government bureaucrats widows and orphans starving in the streets and the commies overrunning our military, who won't be able to pay anyone to fight on our behalf.

Well, OK, so the commies are already here.  As I was saying....

Before we all have to deal with the impact of a national bout of PSH, let's look at some numbers.

The FY 12 Federal budget, if we had actually had one, was $2.469 trillion.  I keep finding different numbers on just what the amount to be sequestered, but let's go with a high one--$110 billion.  That means the military would take a $55 billion cut, and all other programs would take a $55 billion cut, with many programs being exempt.

OMG, that amounts to...4.455% of the budget.  Yep, folks, the good old Us of A is going to collapse if we cut the budget 4.455%.

Don't be a sheep.  Demand that the politicians do the jobs they were elected to do.  Don't let them fool you with all the sturm und drang about how horrible this is going to be.  Send them a message--either pick where the cuts will be, or let it happen automatically.

Besides, it isn't like it's really going to make a difference in the long run, anyway.  We're still broke, and still living on credit.  It can't go on forever.
