Utah teachers--better prepared than average

(Via Timebomb2000)

Today, common sense wins out in Utah, where 200 teachers are taking part in free concealed carry classes held by the Utah Shooting Sports Council.

Of course, the nannies school administrators are predictably predicting blood in the hallways.

Utah educators say they would ban guns if they could and have no way of knowing how many teachers are armed. Gun-rights advocates estimate that 1 percent of Utah teachers or 240 are licensed to carry concealed weapons. It's not known how many pack guns at school.

"It's a terrible idea," said Carol Lear, a chief lawyer for the Utah Office of Education, who argues teachers could be overpowered for their guns or misfire or cause an accidental shooting. "It's a horrible, terrible, no-good, rotten idea."

Yeah, because there have been so many misfires, accidental shootings and mass murders inUtah schools since the law allowing teachers to concealed carry was passed in 19-effing-95.  Lawyers.

I guess it's a good thing that Utah law disallows school districts from over-ride the state law, because they'd be just as defenseless as teachers in Connecticut, now wouldn't they?
