Could Fed Chairman Timothy Geithner be involved in SEC rules violation?

The New York Federal Reserve Bank under Timothy Geithner urged insurer AIG in late 2008 to limit disclosures about its payments to banks after getting a $180 billion government bailout, emails released on Thursday showed.

The email exchanges, between the New York Fed and American International Group Inc lawyers, showed that AIG initially proposed disclosing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in early December 2008 that it would pay counterparties 100 cents on the dollar to liquidate credit default swaps it sold them.

But the decision to pay Goldman Sachs, Societe Generale and other global banking giants in full with taxpayer funds was not disclosed by AIG until March 2009, when it announced a $93 billion payoff that stoked public rage over the bailout.

So much for that "open and transparent" Obama administration, eh?

We saw a similar exodus among Republicans in the last election, when they knew they couldn't win. I have to wonder if the elect are starting to see some writing on the wall.

Taken together, the decisions by Senators Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota as well as Colorado Governor Bill Ritter caused another bout of heartburn for Democrats as they struggle to defend themselves in a sour political environment for incumbents, particularly the party in charge.

The Republicans should be aware of something, lest they think this means we love them again. We don't love any of you elitist/statist bastards. It's just that right now, we're looking at solving our immediate problem, which is a bunch of wanna-be socialists intent on ramming their agenda down our throats. We're not interested in having you back in charge so that you can try to cram your wanna-be Big Brother agenda down there. Our throats are already filled with bile from our treatment over the last few decades.

Whenever one group or the other figures out the true meaning of the phrase "limited government", then you can come back and play. Until then, consider yourselves on double secret probation.

Well, the first decade of the new century is over

And the punditry is scrabbling about, looking for a name for it. There's a lot to be said for the decade--we avoided the disaster that could have been January 1, 2000; we spent money we didn't have like mad and had a thunderingly good time; we elected our first crypto-socialist president.

But during all of it, a funny thing happened. Funny like the dog in a Sherlock Holmes' tale. That is to say, nothing happened. Except inflation.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) defended Congress' work on a healthcare bill Tuesday saying the process has displayed historic transparency, just as C-SPAN mounts an effort to open the negotiations.

I got nothing...not for a lie of this magnitude. In the application of the Theory of the Big Lie, Pelosi makes Stalin look like a piker.
