Well I'm shocked

(As seen at Breda's)

You are a

Social Liberal
(65% permissive)

and an...

Economic Conservative
(80% permissive)

You are best described as a:

I suspect my scores are a bit lower than hers because I'll tend to say things like "Yes, there are some people who are to stupid to be allowed to breed." It's a character flaw.

Out in the open

(Via the Drudge Report)

Well, we gunnies knew this was coming. Now it's out in the open for all to see:

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

The part about this that I just have to find humor in is that this time, we're not doing it because of crime, or for the children, but we're going to do it for...

The Mexicans.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

I guess that's where all the evil black rifles have went. And here I was, blaming Obama.

(Edit, 2/27/2009 2033: It seems that there are some interesting fracture lines in the Democrat party. Nancy Pelosi, no friend of gun owners, has said "No" to Holder's proposal.

This could be simply a "nose out of joint" issue, since she says she wasn't consulted before Holder started talking up the subject. It could also be a sing of a split between the old and new Democrats--a sort of generational feud, as it were. It could also be the voice of pragmatism, saying "Hey, a bunch of us lost our jobs the last time we tried this, Sparky." Or it could simply be a smart pol, biding her time.

What it isn't is a change of heart. So don't get suckered in, boys and girls.)

Tough job

(Via the Drudge Report)

A group of liberal bloggers said it is teaming up with organized labor and MoveOn to form a political action committee that will seek to push the Democratic Party farther to the left.

Of course, I think this may be impossible--if they go any further left, they're going to fall off the earth. Who are these people kidding? A $3.5 trillion dollar budget proposal? My God, this guy makes George W. Bush look like a fiscal conservative!

OK, so what am I supposed to make of this?

CNBC is publishing an article on Great Depression-era cooking? O-o-ok, then.

At least they link the ladies blog. At the rate things are going, this may come in very handly.

Speaking of grasping

The nation's largest cable operators are trying to find a way to get customers to watch cable TV shows online, but to pony up some money for the privilege.

So let's this logic, the makers of over-the-air TV antennas should be paid by the cable companies because people aren't buying antennas to watch TV. Sorry boys, but you've let technology get away from you--this one doesn't fly. You need to adjust your business models accordingly.

Today must be Asshat Wednesday.

What a complete asshat

A state-certified firearms instructor sold firearms safety training course certificates required to obtain concealed handgun permits in North Carolina, deputies in Randolph County said.

James Vincent Smith, 45, of Winston-Salem, has been charged with solicitation of another to commit a felony.

Mr. Smith, I would like to thank you so much for setting back the concealed carry movement several years, you greedy, useless moron. What a total tool you must be, you grasping, sub-room temperature IQ possessing troll. What the hell were you thinking?

Now they need to go arrest everyone who bought their certificates. They're just as guilty as he is.

I'm not sure what is more worrisome--the scenario discussed or the fact that it's being discussed on national TV. We should take it as a warning when this happens. I have this sense of time growing increasingly short before somebody, somewhere, starts something that we will all have to finish.

Get your walking shoes on

Because we're going to DC to march for our civil rights. The Second Amendment March is going to be held in the Spring of 2010. If you can't get to DC, there will be satellite marches across the country, mostly in state capitals.

This group is just getting off the ground, but support is building nicely. Heck, if Da Nuge says it's OK, that's good enough for me. Every gun owner in the country, along with those who just support civil rights and the Constitution, need to get behind this project and ensure that the turnout is so large that it can't be ignored by those in power. Coming, as it does, near the mid-term election, it's a perfect vehicle to put the "fear of the voters" into our elected officials.

They also have forums for the discussion of the logistics of the operation as well as some general gun rights issues. I imagine any questions can be answered there.

Mountain Man, you're riding with me.

What you can do this week

Fellow North Carolinians who hold a concealed carry permit, rejoice!

Sen. Andrew Brock filed a last week that would allow North Carolinians with concealed weapons permits to take their guns into restaurants.

A companion was filed this week in the House.

If you're a NC resident, you need to send Sen. Brock and big "Thank you!", and you need to write your local representative and senator and urge them to support these bills.

Can I hold you to that?

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has steadied Wall Street by telling Congress the recession would end this year.

Not that I distrust my government, but I think I'll wait and see on that pronouncement.

This goes on the "must have" list

The Conservative Scalawag has discovered one of the coolest products in gun-dom--the "training barrel". This is a bright yellow plastic barrel that replaces the real barrel in your gun, rendering it inert for training purposes. It's less expensive than a Blue Gun and doesn't sting like an Airsoft can.

I can see how, in certain circumstances, it might not be obvious enough that the gun in your hand is inert, but for training in your home (with the spouse and the kids--you need a team to clear a house safely), this is just the ticket.
