Video of the US Air Flight 1549 ditching

(Via Timebomb 2000)

For all the talk I saw and heard about the response of the FDNY and NYPD, it looks to me like the ferry operators were first on the scene and rescued the majority if not all of the passengers.

Oh yeah, the Coast Guard shot the video....

A little something to think about

(Via Worldnet Daily)

"Hamas took a gamble. We thought, at worst Israel will come and do something from the air - something superficial. They'll come in and go out. We never thought that we would reach the point where fear will swallow the heart and the feet will want to flee. You [Israel] are fighting like you fought in '48. What got into you all of a sudden?"

These are the words of a Palestinian terrorist captured by Israeli forces. Interesting, aren't they?

So what got into the Israelis? In other recent actions against terrorists, Israeli public opinion, while in favor of the actions, always had a fairly large component of dissent. This time, that doesn't seem to be the case. (I saw one report of a 97% support level, but I can't seem to come back to that article.)

The Israeli government has stood surprising firm against calls from outside Israel for a cease-fire/withdrawal. Despite some heavy bad press (from the usual suspects, such as CNN, the BBC, MSNBC and others), the Israeli military has continued to press the attack. Entire military units of Hamas are being destroyed.

In spite of missile attacks from a new direction, a UN resolution and the complaints of many Jews from outside the country, the Israeli military has continued to push forward. So what got into Israel?

Did Israel finally get tired of being the target of incessant rocket attacks? Did they see some window of opportunity to eliminate a threat and decide to take it? Are they worried about the Obama presidency and a lack of US support? Are they sending a message to Iran?

I don't know. Perhaps it's a combination of things (as is usually the case in most situations). In any case, I'm just happy to see the old Israel back in action.

Dead terrorists, no matter who killed them, are a Good Thing.

"No Republican has announced plans to oppose Holder's nomination."

Here's a message for the Republican Party--if you people don't get your act together and stop playing footsies with the Democrats (link via Drudge), we conservatives are going to find another home. We're not interested in "Democrat Lite". Stand up and fight, for cryin' out loud!

While the GOP was expected to use the confirmation hearing to demonstrate that the party is still relevant despite a Democratic sweep in November, Holder was largely spared any confrontational questions during the morning hours of the daylong hearing.

Are they so demoralized because they lost the election that they can't do their jobs? Do they think the only way they'll get to keep them is to go along with the Big O because he's, like, so-o-o-o popular? Could it be they're afraid someone will say "the R word"?

Or are they really so dense that they still don't understand why they lost in 2006 and 2008? You know, the "get drunk on power, spend like a drunken sailor, spit on our rights and dare us to do anything about it" business?

What a bunch of losers. Why don't you people grow up and grow a pair?

OK, we need to get on this on quickly

I missed it, but A Keyboard and a .45 didn't. The confirmation hearing of Eric Holder, the Big O's choice for Attorney General, starts tomorrow.

This is big. Holder has a history of anti-gun activities, and allowing him in this position will be a big blow to gun owners nationwide. The amount of damage he could do is staggering.

A Keyboard and a .45 has a handy post with the contact links for all the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He billed it as "making it easy for you". I'm going to make it even easier--here's something you can use on the form:

Dear Sen. [so-and-so]:

I'll be up front--I can't vote for you. I don't live in [your state].

However, I, along with millions of other law-abiding American gun owners, are counting on your help. We're asking you to oppose the nomination of Eric Holder for Attorney General.

Holder has a long record of opposition of gun ownership, a right guaranteed by the Second Amendment. On the eve of what will be the most anti-gun owner administration in our history, we can not allow a man with the views espoused by Mr. Holder in a position of such power.

Please oppose the nomination of Eric Holder. Thanks.
I've sent this one to all of the Republican members of the committee. Feel free to modify it as you see fit. I added a little parenthetical note after the part about not living there for senators from states I have visited.

My evil twin sent this one to all of the Democrat members of the committee:

Dear Sen. [Leftist SOB]:

I'll be up front--I can't vote for you. I don't live in [your Socialist-leaning state].

However, I, along with millions of other Americans who value justice under the law, are counting on your help. We're asking you to oppose the nomination of Eric Holder for Attorney General.

Mr. Holder was instrumental in obtaining a presidential pardon for Marc Rich, a commodities trader who fled the country in 1983 rather than face trial on charges of tax evasion, racketeering and trading with the enemy. In these days where it is of critical importance that we bring criminals in our financial system to justice, this single act alone should disqualify him from holding this important office.

Please oppose the nomination of Eric Holder. Thanks.
Ya'll have at it.

"One has a sinking suspicion that the press is allowing itself to become Obama's lapdog extraordinaire."

According to Sun-Times columnist and long-time Chicago journalist, Carol Marin, journalists at Barack Obama news conferences have come to realize that Obama has pre-picked those journalists whom he will allow to ask him questions at the conference and many of them now "don't even bother raising" their hands to be called upon.

It isn't as if this should be a surprise to any one; the Big O was doing the same thing on the campaign trail. We can't have anyone who hasn't partaken of the Kool-Aid embarass The Enlightened One, now can we?

And now, a little musical interlude:

Another Transition oopsie

(Via the Drudge Report)

Every incoming President has his share of these appointment gaffs. This time I find myself enjoying them a bit more than strictly necessary.

A Capitol Hill grilling is likely for Timothy Geithner, President-elect Barack Obama's pick to head the Treasury Department, after public revelations he failed to pay $34,000 in taxes several years ago.

I guess there were no questions about back taxes on the questionnaire then?

What you can do this week

(Via Timebomb 2000)

Well fellow gunnies, the battle is joined. We have our first anti-civil rights legislation of the 111th Congress. Rep. Bobby Rush (Totalitarian-IL) has introduced the "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009". To spare you all the reading, here are the highlights:

  • Creates a national firearms licensing scheme.
  • Licenses are good for 5 years and are shall issue. Licenses must be renewed every 5 years.
  • All transfers must take place through a licensed dealer.
  • The AG gets a full record of every firearm transfered. Can you say "Gun Registry"?
Now's the time to start emailing your Representatives. Be polite, but be firm. Tell them that you are a single-issue voter--you vote to protect your civil rights. This bill is anti-civil rights, and you expect them to do everything in their power to stop this bill cold. (If you don't know your Rep's email, you can find it here.)

Remember to use the term "civil rights". The Second Amendment is as much a civil right as the First, the Fourth or any other, and deserves the same protection.

Creeping socialism

(Via the Drudge Report)

Isn't creeping any longer. It's here and if The Big O has his way, we may as well get used to it.

Until last week, Carol M. Browner, President-elect Barack Obama's pick as global warming czar, was listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group's Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for "global governance" and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change.

But it's OK, because "Mr. Obama's transition team said Mrs. Browner's membership in the organization is not a problem and that it brings experience in U.S. policymaking to her new role."

Oh, I'm so much more comfortable now. I was afraid that we might get tangled up in something like the Kyoto accords, one world government, or sabotaging our economy just to make the world love us more. Boy, am I glad I was wrong on that!

Leftist dictionary

Here's a convenient dictionary of the language "Leftist". You may want to keep this handy after the Big O is sworn in, just to understand what they are saying.

Someone hand me the Cluebat, please...

So the Seattle Post-Intelligencer is up for sale and might close if no buyer is found?

Pardon me while I wipe the crocodile tears from my eyes.

Even now, those associated with the paper and the story do not understand why they are going out of business. Sure, the economy is hurting them. But the biggest factor is that they turn out a poor quality product, and more and more people are figuring that out.

Look at the election just past--the media was so obviously in the tank for the Big O that even they had to run stories about it--although their spin machine was on overload trying to make the situation appear to be "not so bad".

There is a sea change coming in journalism--or at least it should be coming. Journalists are going to have to start reporting the facts--and only the facts--and saving their opinions for the editorial pages. This country went through an age of "yellow journalism" once upon a time, and the damage to the media of the time was deep and long-lasting.

This time, since there are alternatives to the traditional media, the damage may well be permanent. You'd better get your acts together while you still can.

Prince Harry has sparked a race row after "disturbing" video footage of him calling an Army colleague "Paki" emerged.

This is over an incident during a training evolution where Good Prince Harry (you know, the British Royal who went to war) had the temerity to call a Pakistani trainee by a derogatory name. At least from my experience, this is simply how training is. An instructor will say anything to see if you can be easily angered.

All of the uproar over this is being spoken with all the vitriol and political correctness that only a PSH leftists who have never experienced military service (and likely hate and despise the military as well) can muster.

Note to the British people: You are allowing a small percentage of your population to destroy your cultural traditions, your military and your society just before you are going to desperately need them all. You may want to consider a significant housecleaning.

Chin up, Harry.
