Helpful advice for the homeowner

Never use a solid color stain on a deck. It's a bad idea. If the deck's wood is so damaged that you're considering a solid stain as a last ditch "just make it last a little longer", DON'T!! Just pull it down and rebuild. You have been warned.

But if you should use a solid color stain on a deck, never try to strip it off, even using the good sodium hydroxide stripper. Just keep staining the damn thing.

Ask me how I know.
